Yes, exactly! I think people believe people only get band tattoos to show how *~*hardcore*~* they are and things, but I would say that in most cases, it would be because the band means something more to them, and as you, say, has inspired them to do things they might never have done, and reminds them of a good time in their life. I love your tattoos, I love sleeves and think they look epsecially great on women.
Mine is the Einstuerzende Neubauten glyph, which is a design I like anyway, and also EN will always remind me of things I've done and places I've seen. Having an EN tattoo is something a lot of their fans do anyway (Hell, even Henry Rollins has one), so it's being part of a community as well.
And oh no! I would never consider covering it up -- I was actually thinking of putting a smaller one above it and bigger one below, and have a line of EN glyphs going down my arm :D
